Hey Guys.

I will be in the Cedar Square / Fourways area for the weekend, looking to a join any groups from the area please for Friday and Saturday. Avg pace 27-29km/hr over 80-100km.

I know Cyclelab have their Saturday group rides to Cradle, can I just slot in there ?

Or head to the Cradle and join the multitude of groups, formal and otherwise that'll be there. Based on current weekends, it's a tad busy and...entertaining. Best get there before the sun if sanity needs to be preserved.

Club100 have a group or 3 that leave from Broadacres (at the Mugg & Bean) at 6:45 on Saturday.

Mavericks Academy have a group starting from Broadacres (at the Pappachinos) at 6 on Saturday (mostly a tri-club).

How safe is it to ride alone from Cedar / Broadacres to Cradle ? Some parts of that road is narrow especially around the T junction.

100% safe. Just don't ride like a knob. (I mean that honestly, just ride smart and its fine)

Or, park at the cradle.

Like the man says. Very safe - 2 lanes and a big wide shoulder with lots of cyclists in it. It's safer to ride to the cradle IMO than in the cradle owing to all the noobs out there. Also i have heard of lots of reports of cars stolen etc from people having parked alongside secure venues.

Strava heatmaps and Garmin routes etc will show you the major routes. Leave early as its going to be busy. Just follow the bunches. Oh and its not flat - Broadacres to caves  and back is about 72km with 1000m of climbing. You can park outside melo Velo. Jhb boys are also mellow and wont mind if you tag along.

There are road works at the T-Junction, so the road is a bit of a mess, otherwise all traffic is very slow moving at that point and easy to navigate.  Just keep aware.  Otherwise the road from Broadacres is fine.  Many cyclists on this section and most traffic is use to/aware of us.

Once over the Lansaria road you are basically in the cradle and the roads have a decent yellow for you to cycle in.

Veebee you don't need to ride alone. Park at Broadacres as suggested earlier and be ready to leave from about 06:00.

Hook on to one of the groups and ask if you can ride along.

I ride from there most weekends and we are always being invited to join in by the CycleLab group.

Not as dangerous as everyone believes but take care once in the cradle as there are presently lots of cyclists of varying temperament and skill sets.
