EddieV Posted October 14, 2020 Share I need some advice on crankset options on a 2 x 11 road bike setup. A steel Cervelo Prodigy (disc) frame with an English threaded 68mm BB shell. The rest of the components is Ultegra R8000 11spd disc. I am using a Chorus 175mm 53/39 on my current bike, I’ve always used either 175 or 172.5mm lengths and not a fan of compact cranks. First choice was a FC-R8000 crankset, but besides being hard to come by in above spec, they are a bit pricey locally too?2nd choice a Shimano 105 FC-R7000 11spd crankset. Seems as if it’s just-about impossible to find a 11spd Shimano 175mm 53/39 in SA though. Additionally, it’s quite a bit cheaper to order from Europe but then I’m stuck ito breakage and warranties as I’ve found quite a bit of articles on failure of the 11spd Shimano road cranks? What other brands can I look at? (and I hate square taper) - or should I just stay with my trusted Campagnolo cranksetBudget would be around 4K max - and 2nd hand is also an option. ref: https://www.bikeradar.com/features/shimano-crank-failure/(the comments below the article highlights more failures)
DieselnDust Posted October 14, 2020 Share With a BSA 68mm shell you can fit almost any crankset you can find.24mm, 24/22mm GXP, 28.99mm SRam DUB, BB30.You will just need the appropriate BB to fit it.I'd suggest a SRAM Dub with a DUB to BSA Bottom bracket. The bearings are outboard and standrd 61806 2RS SKF bearings. The other option is the Campagnolo Ultratorque. J&J Cycling distrinutors will carry a 175 53/39 crank, its a popular choic with campyphiles due to the Campagnolo cassettes having a more useful range starting with 11, 12 or 13 tooth cassettes up to 29t.
