Event Name: Germiston Classic
When: 30 October 2021 - 31 October 2021
Where: Cafe du Cirque, Daleside, Gauteng
Category: Road

Our cycling event, the Germiston Classic Cycle Race, formerly known as the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic, will be back on 30-31 October 2021. We are hard at work obtaining the necessary approvals and putting systems in place to be able to host a safe and enjoyable event, irrespective of the COVID restrictions in place at the time. This means changing a few things, for the better, as well as breathing some life into an event that has remained fairly static for the last few decades.

Sadly we have to say goodbye to Carnival City as a title sponsor, due to budget constraints that were directly related to the (less than ideal) economy. We wish to thank them for their support for close on 2 decades, and hope to welcome them back in the near future.

We have secured a new venue (some know it as the Circus), which means that our event will feature a new route too. We hope to reveal our plans once we’ve got the necessary approvals from the SAPS (Risk Classification), the local Municipality (permission to use the public roads and more), as well as the approval from our remaining title sponsor, Macsteel.

We are extremely excited about the new event, and are optimistic it will be the usual well organised, and safe race that participants come to expect from us.

Would love to share what I know; as we haven't signed off yet, I need to keep my lips sealed.

In the meanwhile, book the date, as it has been on the CyclingSA calendar since the event was postponed last year.

edit: had a number of people asking if the event will be held this year. So these two posts hopefully answer that question.

Will you be doing a mtb race too like normal?

Not this year.

What I am willing to share, is that we’re hosting two road events, on the Saturday and Sunday. This is to mitigate the risk of restricted numbers at events. Not sure what CTCT will do if there is a limit on numbers.

  • 1 month later...

Gauteng cyclists will now have their own "team time trial" type race, similar to the Double Century and the Maluti Double 90.

  • We have two events, namely The Metric Century (100Km) on 30/10/2021 and The Imperial Century (160km) on 31/10/2021.
  • A team of 6 (100Km) and a team of 10 (160Km) will race on a route with a bit of everything; wind, smooth tar, long drags and downhills as well as minimal traffic and intersections.
  • Online entries will open later this month, with a R500 deposit to secure your team entry. The balance will be due closer to the event, so that we limit the stress of refunds if COVID prevents us from hosting the event. More about this when we launch online entries.
  • No number collection, as you will collect your race pack on the morning of the event.

That's about enough of a teaser for now - the rest will be made public when the website is updated with enter now details.

Special (price and or T-shirt) if one should do both events?

Bit of a hijack, oom @Frosty the Germiston Wheelers site is a bit broken. Can see the main page, but every other page gives a 404 error
