Hi

I'm going to Botlierskop for three nights.

Any suggestions on nice routes and area's to explore in the above mentioned area?

I see there is a bike park, named Klipheuwel, in Klein Brak. Is it any good....?

Feedback & ideas will be appreciated.

Hi, yes there are a lot of gravel routes in the area, some of which are used by the Attakwas. Follow the link below for a cycling map of the area.

It depends on how far you want to go, and how fit you are, but my recommendation would be to leave from Bottelierskop and head up Donald's Height towards Ruiterbos. Boerqi Bistro is a nice coffee stop. You can either then return via the same route, but I'd recommend returning via Leeukloof (it's quite a long steady climb out of the kloof though)

Big Dipper is also a nice challenge if you're up for it, but I think the route between the Village and Bottelierskop is closed so you'll have quite a loop to get back .

An alternative would be to go straight to Bonniedale and then loop back via Boerqi Bistro.

Can't comment on Klipheuwel, but if you want to ride trails, I recommend heading to George, either Witfontein or the George Dam (or GRTP if you're up for the +-hour drive)

Hi there.

You can also do the Jonkersberg MTO forestry routes which are quite challenging and with them one can go all the way on the contour lines to George or turn off towards Eagles Rest restaurant and camping site for a bite and coffee and return from there on gravel roads through Groot Brakrivier back to Botlierskop. Also if on Strava check out the routes on it for this area.

There are loads of gravel roads from Botlierskop. Klipheuwel has a pump track and a short cross country course on site. But they also have some nice single-track from them towards Botlierskop and further away but I'm not sure how to get to them and who may ride them, pvt farms.

Call this lady, she runs Klipheuwel and will be able to assist.

Wow, that PDF is awesome, thanks wa88! Recognise most of those routes, but there are a few that I've ridden past, but never attempted. We usually camp at Riverside in December/January which is just down the road from Bottlierskop.

To the OP, what wa88 says is true, it all depends on how fit you are and how far you want to go. There are plenty of gravel in the area. Towards Jonkersberg however the road was badly corrugated in Dec/Jan, so if you have false teeth, keep your mouth closed. Beautiful area, and given the opportunity, I'd move there in a heartbeat. Enjoy!

Consider climbing Montagu Pass, a great outing. Take the car or let someone drop you off at the Engen in George. Ride up and from the top it can be a great downhill all the way to Bottlierskop.

You are definitely spoilt for choice.
