Yang Posted April 24, 2009 Share At the 94.7 Expo I bought a sub to the "proposed" Cycle Sport mag, on blind faith, and not having heard anything for months until this email below on 8 April I thought that I had blown about R300 or something on a mag that would not be coming out. Then I got this email. Maybe this will provide a decent alternative to Bicycling, although I hope the editor knows how to spell apologise and with and first. Also, no Tread at the Nelspruit Exclusive Books. Where can I find it in Durban when I get there next weekend? Hi I am appologising for the late delivery for the Cycle Sport subscription that you took out at the 94.7 expo. We have encountered a glitch whith our licensor who would not allow us to print untill we had changed our companies registered name. We have now completed the paperwork and all is back on track. We have been told that we will be able to have our fist copies in print in May and available in June. All those subscribers who have paid and were waiting for their 1st copy in March will recieve their first copy in June along with an additional 3mths free as compensation. We thank you for your patience and loyalty and once again appologise for the delay. Please contact me if you have any questions or complaints. ShaughnK Posted April 24, 2009 Share Cyclelab in Durban North had Tread in stock. You just have to hunt a bit as they clearly dont believe in displaying it on the mags shelf. When I bought mine late last week it was lying still packed in a bundle on the floor.... Actually I think I must mention that on the Tread thread seeing as Cyclelab had taken a full page ad in Tread. Daxiet Posted April 25, 2009 Share My wife bought a subscription to this mag for me at the 94.7 expo as well. I too had pretty much written it off. Thanks for the post, maybe we will finally see something in the post. On the side, poor form to send out such a mail without at least verifying spelling. porky Posted April 26, 2009 Share I saw something about it, but never bothered to follow up. What is their marketing angle Yang, mostly local news or the same international info with a small local content. I may be persuaded to buy it if the international info is reproduced here, as it should reach us a lot quicker and more timeously, although this would put the international mag out of business here, soooooo..........................maybe, but I cant see it.! If its just local stuff, I am not interested. I have seen enough stories on Mr Lange and company to keep me avoiding local mags for the next 10 years at least. [/quote'] Porky, their marketing angle wasn't much to write about. Visually the stand had one of those big banners showing the mag, and there was a pretty young smiley smiley blonde nubile who was the best on stand, and some dude who was wishing he could get it on with her (like me) who told me that the mag would contain international content with a mix of local stuff. I expect that we'll get to see more about the Euro pros (profiles), the classics, etc- he said similar to the international edition, but at a local price. I handed over my credit card to the smiley smiley nubile, watched her very very carefully while she swiped my card, then went on my way.

porky Posted April 28, 2009 Share Oh, okay Yang. Thanks. So nothing new hey, usual SA media type publicity. An el cheapo stand with no stock, a vacuous young bimbo who only reads picture books, and a credit card machine, all aimed at selling a FUTURE promise.!! Hmmm. Think I will flick through a few editions in the local Exclusive books before I cancel my international subscription.! porky2009-04-28 05:22:

I won't buy it. It would just irritate me too much to read the poor English.
porky Posted April 29, 2009 Share I cant even understand why they want to produce a local copy. In my opinion the market is small and probably saturated with local bike magazines all telling you the same thing. It seems everybody here thinks they have a better way to skin a cat, so advertising budget, in an already squeezed and small market, is spread even more thinly between the publications, they all write about the same event at the same time, theres few products that have not been "reviewed" to death and the magazine ends up basically competeing on pretty pictures and lightweight editorial, eventually the the mag either dissapears or becomes a non entity. To my mind its far better to have one thick, professional top rate magazine we can all enjoy than three or four mediocre ones. The sport and the cycling economy here is just not big enough. Yang Posted October 26, 2009 Share Right. One year on, and no mag. R300+ down the drain. But, ever the optimist. maybe, Mr Darryl will be at the 94.7 expo.... Over to you mateys for any light on this bloody nefarious matter.
