A stolen Scott has turned up in the local village. Please contact me with details of your stolen Scott. It will have to be quick before the guy moves the bike. I'm due to meet up with him on Monday.

Hi Rad- its a MTB.

The owner must get hold of me quickly, so he can make the call- do I get it back for him, in which case there's the question of "reward" money, or does he want to let it go.

If the owner wants it back I will give the thief the "reward" money, but the issue of creating a market remains. Then I will arrange with the owner to get the bike back to him.

They did that at the Ressano Garcia border post a couple of years ago. SA Customs confiscated a whole lot of bikes over a period of time, and held an auction. Apparently a prominent shop owner in Nelspruit snapped up some good bikes cheepcheep.

I just want to avoid being the "guy to go to" here in Xinavane whenever a stolen bike appears, not because I don't want to get hold of the hubbers about it, but because the message will go out to the slimy bastards in SA "hey, there's a mlungu in Xinavane who's buying up our bikes. Lets redistribute some more." In the end its us who lose.

Also, as a wise young dude told me this morning....

"Guys... LOCK UP YOUR STUFF!"

Actually- that's not so wise. Its plain common sense.
