Brooks Saddle: Big, ugly, and oh-so-comfy!

Hello all...

Had a few queries about what a Brooks saddle looks like on a XC bike...

Decide for yourselves....

I'm still getting used to it.

Ok - maybe I'll never get used to it - but wow, is my behind happy with the change!

I still need to do a few more kilo's before the saddle starts shaping and really gets comfortable (and believe me, it is already) - and when that's happened I'll pop my thoughts up on the Hub...

Here's what I had on...

I want one! Where you get it and how much?

I take it you like the look then? :)

I bought it in Cape Town' date=' in a little, funky boutique clothing shop off Long Street, called "Hello Again"... 44 Bloem Street -  (021 4260242)... Think the lovely young owner's (Lyn?) husband/boyfriend is the chap that imports and sells them...

I got their details off a website that used to be up and running - but I'm cannot remember it anymore... Think I googled Brooks Saddles + South Africa...

As for the price - I'm a bit too embarrassed to say... They're not cheap. [u']BUT,[/u] if you consider that a properly looked after saddle can potentially last you a lifetime (and then some), I figure it's worth it....

awesome, I've heard they can take up to 20 hours saddle time before it's truly yours !! smiley2.gif

Also +1 on supporting the local community - far to many people spending rants oversea's and destroying the balance

smiley32.gif I've got the B-17 Std. Only downside is leather dont like water..But i'm sure you've thoroughly coated yours with the proofide on the underside. Did the 08 Bakwena Classic on mine and it rained all the way. Luckily I had a saddlebag and kept most of the water away. Bought mine from sjscycles.co.uk

I also dig these saddles and love the back-to-basics look, would love to hear how they handle savage endurance rides. Keep us posted.

I don't know. Its a bit like putting one of those voortrekker ou tannie bonnets on a good looking (in this case somewhat older) woman.

Nice. .  what daimaond back frame is that? it look pre 1998 is it the a ti frame?

Thanks Matchstix.... Well spotted :) ... It's a DBR Axis Ti, and is probably a 1994, but possibly a 1995 frame...

Really got curious about it a few years back, and started doing some investigative work - right down to actually chatting via email with the man who oversaw the frame building...

Made by Sandvik over in the States, and only about 1500 of them ever made - so quite chuffed to have picked one up!

So a few responses from Hubbers that like it, and a few that don't...

Guess it's safe to say that opinion is divided! smiley4.gif

Can't say I'm surprised!!!
