Hello all.

I am thinking of trying to get into trials like wheelies hoping over stuff and so on.

Where do I start I can ride a bike so that's one down.

I dont want to buy a bike just for this I have a mountain bike I use for training but don't want to break that.

I adding a photo of a bike that is lying at our house that i can use for this purpose.

There's really not much to convert, you could put suspension on the front and that's it. As for being a dirtjump bike, not sure if that's such a good idea on this bike, trails would be fine I think. Hard to tell in the pic but is that a spot of rust on the top-tube where it joins the seat-tube?

no ways..lower the seat make your tyres bit softa like 1.7bar and fix your rear breaks then u got something you can pomp around on..try as spend as little money as possible on it..i had a old diamondback laying around did the same thing with it..i did some forest mountain riding..and came too hot into a corner and rolld..down the mountain side..i stopped halfway..and bike missioned all the way down to bottom...i got it to the top again to find the only thing wrong was the brake lever was a bit bent...thats all..those old bikes are forking strong ekse!! joh musnt push

I had a look and it seems to be a bit of rust.

If there is rust then it is a steel frame. Would be a bit stronger and forgiving.

I assume you are looking to start TRIALS.

Trails = In the roads in the mountain

Trials (street) = Tricks to go over obstacles with out touching your feet.

then its trials

Hey!

I got your PM, thought I'd rather reply here to benefit everyone.

The bike you have is fine for absolute beginner stuff. I wouldn't advise you on spending any money on that bike, since the geometry will start holding you back fairly quickly once you get into Trials properly.

My recommendation: Get new brake outers and inners and good brake pads. Then grind the **** out of the back rim, maybe add some tar while your at it. Drop the seat as far as it can go. Rip off all the gears except for the 22 in front and the 18 in the back, shorten the chain as much as you can. Slap on a thick tyre on the back, preferably something you have lying around. Leave the reflector, it looks porno! That should set you up with a decent enough bike that you can destroy.

You'll need to start out with the basics: Trackstand, rocking and hopping in place. Basically balancing on the bike while stationary. Once you have that mastered, then you can move on to more exciting things like hopping on the back wheel etc.

If the bike lasts that long, then great! If not, get yourself an Inspired ;)

Try to get your hands on Ryan Leech's DVD, The Art of Trials. I saw it at Sportsmans Warehouse last year for cheap, don't know where you'll find it now.

Good sites to visit are also:ObservedTrials and TrashZen
