  2. Event Name: Mandela Day Marathon MTB Dash When: 24 August 2019 Where: Nelson Mandela Capture Site, R103, Howick,, Kwazulu-Natal Category: MTB Mountain bikers once again have their annual opportunity to celebrate the life of the Father of the Nation when the Mandela Day Marathon MTB Dash takes place on Saturday, August 24th at the Mandela Capture Site near Howick. The three mountain bike races are part of the weekend of events that include a road running marathon, trail runs, a fun run and a triathlon, all taking place in honour of former President Nelson Mandela. The jamboree of participation sports which are centred around the world-famous Mandela Capture Site has quickly established itself as one of the top sporting events hosted in KZN. Mountain bikers have the choice of riding in memory of South Africa's greatest global icon in three different events – a 42km race for serious top-level competitors, an intermediate 21km event for weekend warriors and part-time mountain bikers, or a 10km fun ride aimed at younger riders, those who are learning the sport, families and those who simply want some fun in the saddle. The events are a perfect opportunity to pay homage to Nelson Mandela. More information on the various Mandela Day Marathon events can be found at www.mandeladm.org.za/mtb-dash/ while online entries are at www.roag.co.za. Online entries for the mountain biking events close on Tuesday, August 20th. Go to Event Page

  5. 10:42 The very hilly terrain around here has made comms a bit tricky. Trying to get info on the women, but we're hearing that Luthi/Morath were way off the pace. That is copied off the site. Remember this is not 21st century comms for the olympics in a city centre with everything on hand. The guys doing the feed are working at a finish venue that next week will only be used by cows and goats - that means logistics are not easy. The fact up to four thousand people are watching the various feeds at any one time means the majority are getting a benefit from it. Only one media helicopter is covering the race and the flying time needed to go back and try and find the leading women would be prohibitive, and the chances of a mistake identifying or missing the leading women is high from the air. Just my view.
  6. They are working on getting the feed up as early as possible.
  7. An example of what you get on the live updates ... 09:33 The top men kicking up dust 09:32 The front group now Bulls, Cannondale, Investec Songo Specialized, Centurion Vaude, Topeak Ergon and Scott. They are close to the second water point at 57km 09:29 It's sorted but Knox and Hector Paez are having to chase back to the front group 09:28 Max Knox has a chain issue. Where is his back up team!? 09:28 After the big descent off the mountain above Stanford the route turns right towards Hermanus, finishing with a fun spin along the town's urban assault mountain biking section 09:17 It's a nice, clear day so the views from the top down over Stanford and the sea in the distance will be spectacular. Not that the top guys will be concerned with the vistas 09:17 Not long before the leaders will get to the second water point just before the big climb over the Klein River Mountains
  8. "Watch" on the website. I'm enjoying the live updates there.
  9. Live updates on the website has been working brilliantly this morning. https://www.cape-epic.com/ go to "live update" tab. As info coming in it is being fed to the site and has been working well all morning. Live tracking has been working for me as well, a few riders do seem to have their trackers turned off though. Live streaming is now up as well.
