  1. I see these bikes are on sale at CWC. Did you buy one and what was your experience? Im looking for something similar to what you were. Not a hard tail MTB or a roab bike.
  2. Thats like saying “full english breakfast” when someone aks if you want coffee or tea.
  3. Thanks. I hope it works out to. I had it from a friend that they couldn’t really notice the difference when going from Shimano XT 11-46 to Sunrace 11-46. Also hope it works out ????
  4. Thanks all. I ordered the SLX cassette. Running KMC chain. Could get it for R250 cheaper than Sunrace. I already changed from 32t to 30t slx chainring, but I’m still battling a bit on long steep gravel/jeep track climbs with 1x11 29er compared to 27 with 2x10. I like to ride tough hills. Will post feedback.
  5. Hi all. Anybody have experience with both these cassettes on a 11 sp 29er. I have a 42t slx cassette and changed from a 32 to 30t chainring, but I still struggle on some of the steeper hills where I would prefer to be spinning a bit more. I can actually get the 11-46 slx cassette for a bit cheaper than the sunrace mx8. Two possible issues - replacing the 42t with a 46 gives me a better 1st gear but a very hard 2nd, which will be better on the sunrace (40t 2nd gear). On sunrace the gaps between higher gears are further apart. Is it a hassle as you spend most of your time in those gears? I actually like riding hills and I’m battling with the new bike compared to 2x10. I prefer the simplicity of 1x at this stage (or thats what I keep telling myself). Changing to 2x will be more expensive.
  6. Got a 30t chainring with the 11/42 cassette. It makes a bit of a difference. Was able to do a big climb today and the granny gear worked. Thanks for all the advice. Don’t think spinning out is going to be as big an issue as I thought it would.
  7. I have the 1x 11-42 cassette with 32 chainring. Gonna try a 30t chainring with my current cassette before possibly changing to 11-46 cassette. Will go with sunrace cassette for the extra second granny gear (40t). I’ve never had 1x, but I like the simplicity so I’m gonna stick with it for now. I only needed front rings, derailer and shifter but it wpuld have been much more expensive to change to 2x. I thought it would be cheaper because its not the latest trend. With regards to your knees - I’ve had issues from overuse if I do too much too soon (long distances with lots of climbing). Ease into it and don’t go doing races if you haven’t put in the time to ger your body used to the strain.
  8. I also considered the bigger wheels when comparing gear ratios. But does the wheel size make such a big difference in how hard it feels to pedal the bike? If you take exactly the same gears on a 27.5 and a 29er, theoretically it should be 5% harder pn the bigger wheel. My feeling is that I can push a little harder than what is required to get a 27.5 up a hill with 24/36 (0.66). 32/46 is just 0.69, though on the 29er. I already spin out on the 32/11. Going to 30t chainring and bigger cassette will basically cost the same as getting 2x upgrade bits.
  9. Is there a big difference between the 36/50 compared to 32/42 on the climbs? ( 0.72 vs 0.76 )
  10. Dont know. Can do Montague pass in about 34 min on a good day with 2x10 ht 27.5???? - could go down to 24/36 on the very steep bits. I battle with the 32/42 on 29er. Does that mean anything to anybody? Eagle is not an option for me now budget wise.
  11. What chainring did you have with 11-42? And what chainring are you running with eagle? I’m planning to do Baviaans so this is valuable info. Thanks!
  12. Why did you change to 1x11?
  13. Noted. In this case just changing the cassette is cheaper and easier to do. 2x bits are still expensive, although it gives better range. 36/26 with 11-42 cassette will have one crazy granny gear!
  14. Thanks all. Wont the 28 or 30t chainring will be very slow on flat sections? I’m all ready spinning out on a gravel stretch.
