  1. So, I thought I'd update this thread with my experience for anyone who searches in future: I flew with Swiss Air and got 2x 23kg bags per person. We took 2 extra bags and 2 bike boxes, and no container (didn't want to take furniture and appliances don't work over here because of the voltage, so we made the call to sell almost everything and replace on this side) Bikes should have cost us about R1500 per bike extra as sporting goods, according to the website, but they just checked it is a free sporting goods. On the flip side, we got screwed on the extra bags which should have cost R2k a bag and ended up costing R4.5k a bag, because we didn't pay for it online before hand. So in the end I paid what I expected, but I was still pretty annoyed because we phoned before hand and they told us to do it at the airport. Travelling to and from the airport was a bit stressful with so much luggage, but it's a once in a lifetime journey (hopefully!!). We paid for a porter and 2 taxis on this side and that took the stress off.
  2. I was going to build a DIY light for fun... And then life happened and it got put in a draw. Now I'm emigrating and won't get around to it. Includes P7 LED (I think it was around 900 lumens "claimed"), driver, reflector, copper base thing, and 4x2400mA ultra fire batteries. Basically would need a housing and front glass. The batteries alone should have some value to someone. Preferably collection in Sandton. Strictly no resale.
  3. Yeah, ok. I have weight weenie bikes, but the point is noted. Its for immigration. I will look at duties and so on. I know we have to get everything evaluated for that purpose. Anyone that's couriered? Thanks will look in to it. Quite stressful balancing everything, also have young kids, so shortest travel time is also important.
  4. Fair enough. I was planning to take most of the other stuff separately. Maybe there is possible to get a higher allocation like the 32kg mentioned previously
  5. I'm also in this boat. Looking at going to Toronto with 2 bikes in the next few months. I'd also like to either take it with or send it at the same time. So please keep updating on your progress... I haven't done any research just yet. I think for the flights I saw, it was 2x23kg and options for excess luggage. 23kg should cover both bikes. Would 2 bike boxes count as one checked in luggage? Is there any way to send them separately (like courier) at a similar price to excess luggage?

  7. I have an Easton EA50 bar and stem, if you are interested. 640mm wide, 50mm rise. Stem is 120mm, 6deg rise. Clamp diameter 25.4mm
  8. I agree. Don't put any training wheels on. Let her enjoy the black plastic type bikes until she can reach. You'll be amazed at how quickly they learn to balance. My 2 year old can ride down a slope with her feet up on the balance bike after a few weeks on it. Training wheels will just be a crutch that will hold her back in the longer run.
  9. I'm not using them. My egg beaters are on a commuter bike, the bearings are perfect but they really need a replacement spring to get them back to a good condition, which I'm not going to bother with. I use other pedals on my mtb. Think I bought 2 sets when they were on special years ago.
  10. I literally have a set in my draw. If you don't come right send me a DM. Will have to send from JHB though.
  11. I'm not sure I understand the difference in value between this and the Core... For a difference of R7k you are getting adjustable feet and a bigger flywheel? There was a R5k difference between the core and the kickr 4 a year ago when I bought the core, and at the time I couldn't figure out the difference... Maybe I'm missing something? I'm just glad I got the Core a year ago at R13k I suppose the accuracy improvement is valid, but +-2% isn't something I'm too stressed about
  12. Sounds like quite a few are saying that the barriers are not up to UCI standard. This shows a direct comparison with the Cav/Sagan crash: https://twitter.com/alexfalkeman/status/1291128716727324672
  13. I will contact Jacaranda Childrens home. They seem like a good option. I am in the Sandton area, if there are any other local options?
  14. Hi guys, I have a few old helmets in good condition I would like to donate to someone that can use them. Any ideas of anyone that would be in need? Thanks
  15. I don't get the issue people have... They are not supposed to instantly change as you go into the shade, and normal sunglasses will be even worse (by not changing at all). The alternative is a person with normal sight or contact lenses that takes off their glasses when they go into shade (which means taking the hands off the bars, tucking it into helmet or onto shirt etc.)... this is not going to happen fast either so... Why do people expect instant changing? For me the point is I can go riding at 5am or on a cloudy day and still works when it gets sunny too.
