  1. Hi Guys Humble apologies but got side tracked .... for a few years I tested the unit extensively at that stage (sorry for the lack of feedback as was promised). The main issues were: Battery life, you had to find it pretty quickly for it to still be on.Get another sim card for transmission - bad reception. Not weather proof - Not too hard to get by.Cost - These units were around R2000 at that stage and wit tthe current exchange ...who knowsThere were a few other niggles like the build quality and it not integrating with your existing headset as that would screw the signal of the GPS. There are unfortunately only so many places you can hide this size of unit on a bicycle due to it's size. But there are other options on the market wrt. gps that are now smaller and more power 'savvy' so that there is still probably an opportunity to make these work. I personally belief that a unit designed here in SA would be best suited as most of the the other options out there are meant for Europe etc. where things work a little different than here. Even if you get to build a proper unit and hide it somewhere and get buy in from cyclists and maybe even insurers ... who will go and look for your bike once it's stolen....Do we need a company to do this and how will it be viable. I have some ideas but they all really are chicken and egg situations. Did some investigation and made contact with a company that are bringing something integrated very soon. They asked me not to post any details here yet, but watch this space. As soon as I have the go-ahead I will let you know. It seems that they have been able to find solutions to the issues I highlighted above.
  2. Nope couldn't get 9 June 2017 - 11 September off ... Looks awesome!
  3. As far as I know, I have the HRM-Tri and it is with that so I suppose / assume it will be the same for the Run and Swim as well. Dunno bout the older ones but should be as it has Ant+ and Bluetooth Smart.
  4. If you think that's bad don't get a 5. Have had mine for 2 weeks now and the Wrist Based HRM is ...well shockingly sh!te. Wore a 3 and 5X at the same time for various exercises and tried different positions and tightening of the strap but still with variances of between 20 and 60 bpm. So if you're not getting the Strap, don't get the 5.
  5. Have also never had any issues. Distance pretty spot on. Have had or two occasions (in almost 2 years) where the ascent was off but then I was running without Glonass on and also in a heavy wooded area.
  6. Try and switch off / on gps or reboot the watch.
  7. Oh and I prefer to use the HRM-Tri band in any case as I mount the watch on the handlebar when MTBking. Also when using the wattbike I like to loosen the strap quite a bit and swivel the watch around to sit on the inside of my arm a bit higher from the wrist as I can see the data by just looking and not letting go of the handlebars or moving my position in the seat. Might sound silly but that's what works for me
  8. Also don't hold your breath on this ... you will pass out!! Garmin isn't know for their service. I have given up on the fact that mine doesn't calculate VO2 Max anymore. So much back and forth until Garmin Europe said I can get it replaced and when I informed Garmin SA they wanted to start the whole investigative process again and I just gave up on it... I can't be arsed to be without my watch for a few weeks really So I might be looking at getting a 5X when they release after all but at the moment VO2 Max isn't that important ...
  9. Couldn't agree more!! The 5 series really doesn't offer much more either so my 3 will still be a round for a while I think.
  10. As far as I can recall from a post on the Garmin forums, the watch casing comes inn two parts. The bezel and glass as a unit and the rest but you cannot buy the one or the other they only come as a unit. With dealings with Navworld on the subject they also advised that Garmin will sell you a new watch at a reduced cost rather than replace the housing as it doesn't seem like anyone imports those or replaces them here in SA. This was a while ago though so hings might have changed. I would save the cash and get a 5 .....
  11. I'm rather bad with things like these (OOOOsoooCD) but mine has a fair amount of small scratches on it and to me it's a 'working' watch. A tool that I wear 24/7 and do training outdoors in mud rain dust and all sorts so yes...character that's all it is.
  12. Hi Pieter Haummmm not sure about the yoga part but I use WorkItOut which is configurable for HIIT type body weight workouts.
  13. Good deal for those of you still wanting one... https://www.onedayonly.co.za/fenix-3-silver-hr-gps-sport-watch-with-wifi-bluetooth-compass.html
  14. Had the same issue with my LG G4 and I have put it down to an issue with the version of Android. Did contact Garmin but they could not resolve it. When I bought the G5 with Marshmallow on everything works as it should.
  15. I agree the normal one is still king. I have however had an issue with mine not calculating VO2 Max on Running anymore. I have set HRMax and RHR etc. But after the last update (which wiped the f watch ... still urkes me that there is no proper functionality to back it up automatically) no more calculation on Running and I trail run plenty outdoors with GPS. Anyone else experienced this?
