  1. Note this event has been cancelled due to industrial unrest at the sponsors operations.
  2. Saw them off in PMB this morning. Alex is riding a Lauf fork upfront and set off without a backpack and with tri-bars. Looks like he will be pushing the limits. He was in full aero position on the tar crossing at THornville at 7:02
  3. Just done the whole modification for a Junior rider. Easiest way to calculate the gearing is the following Front big ring (teeth) / rear cassette (teeth) x by rear wheel circuference. 52 / 14 x 2.1m = 7.8m (for a junior) if you run a 52 / 13 gearing (52/13x2,1) = 8.4m over the limit. a 50 / 13 also over runs (52/13x2.1) = 8.07 Running a 50 / 14 (50/14x2,1) = 7.5m well short and left behind on the ride.
  4. In the current and 2017 CSA MTB rules, eBikes will not be permitted at any sanctioned races. Even running a seperate category is a problem and results in all kinds of issues at the event. Even when the rider comes 175th in the fun category rider 176 will have an issue about loosing to an eBike. There is a place for the eBikes for commuting or having a slower partner keep up in touring and and social rides, but do not see any race applications in the next few years.
  5. Sucks that we now have cyclists riding with knives and guns for protection and will not get into the merits and possible outcomes etc of this case. My concern is will this deter other future potential muggers or next time they plan on mugging a cyclist they start with violent intent knowing the outcome of this incident. Does this escalate the potential violence involved in bike muggings. There was a case in the Cape earlier this year where they stabbed first and stole the bike 2nd. Either way we the cyclist loose out. Hope the case ends well for the cyclist.
  6. You get legends, then Chuck Norris and top of the pile is Martin. Well done on a superb ride.
  7. Still have a 40 year old scar from trying to wheelie one of those. Great find.
  8. Event Name: Uplands Classic When: 29 May 2016 Where: Uplands College, Mpumulanga Category: MTB The Uplands Classic is a 54km event based on the trails and forests around White River, The Classic has 1350m of climbing and will provide a good challenge to all riders, there are multiple sections of singletrack and bush tunnels. The 33km event targets the weekend riders it is easy single tracks and forestry roads and has 700m of climbing. The 15km fun ride is for the younger riders and the not so adventurous riders but wills till provide a good off road experience to the riders. Go to Event Page
  9. Cycling is risky business with cars and bikejackers... no need to increase the risk by not hearing the danger. Read a not so funny story about somebody attacked by a rottweiller on the loose and the cyclist did not hear the owners shouts to warn him about the dog. Just does not make sense to increase your risk.
  10. So if Russian athletes are banned from international comps and possibly Rio for mass doping and cover up will the same of different rules apply to Britsih athletes. This could be a big thing but then again until facts on the table could be Sunday Times making a big thing out of nothing?
  11. Looks like more local race organisers joining together to impose life time bans on drug offenders. Cannot blame organisers who have their events results screwed up 6 months to a year after they have paid out good money to "winners".
  12. How can you punish a guy who has just made a total ass of himself in a very embarassing wipeout. Option 1 crawl under the fence Option 2 stop take a bow and applaud the crowds Option 3 walk ways pi$$ed off and mad at yourself. Rider took option 3 and event the race comm felt sorry for him.
  13. Subpar - for a first post and in golfing terms definately Subpar for the course. The guy was a 17km rider and had a spectacular wipe-out caused by him lying on his bars. There was no "unpleasant issue" which you refer to. I was standing less than 10m from the incident and the "tossing" of the helmet saved him some face. The bike landed in the sponsors tent and if you observed correctly you would have noted him wearing the sponsors shirt, so in terms of his way of dismounting he mearly gently placed his helmet next to his bike.
  14. The meeting by all concerned resloved the issues and a strong police presence will ensure that Sabie is ready to host the event.
  15. There was a version of the statement circulating on What's App where there was some editing and the words "potential and considering" were edited out to read that the event was cancelled.
