  1. Hi, I was wondering if there is anyone out there with Parkinson's Disease who cycles and what their experiences of it are. I was diagnosed with the disease in 2013 - I have continued cycling, but the disease zaps my motivation and my muscle power every now and again......It is also a pain to live on a regime of medication every 3 hours or so. Just interested....surely I am not the only one person cycling with it. Ian
  2. Hi, Maybe somebody on the Forum can help me..... I ordered some Parts from Partshark the US for my old Yamaha 850 TDM - Needles and Seats -the parts are so small they could literally fit in a Matchbox! They were shipped via USPS - according to the USPS Tracking Site they are 'in transit' at JHB International - I live in Cape Town. The SAPO Tracking Site doesn't recognize the USPS Tracking Number. Does anybody have some ideas as to how I can find them (this is the 2nd shipment - the 1st one disappeared into the ether... Any help will be much appreciated.... Thanks, Ian
  3. I lived in Piketberg for almost 20 Years, so I am fortunate enough to know what lies beyond that sleepy 'Boland Town Facade' - in the Great People that live there, the magnificent scenery and the amount of freedom you have to ride...it is great to see what a fascinating trail network has been developed....I must get back there again. Ian
  4. Hi You can do a route profile yourself on Google Earth - will have to look again & see how you do it - generally- first you need measure and mark the route with the ruler, then save it and you can generate the profile. My 10c worth on the slicks - the tar will be OK but the resct of the descent will be lethal - I find a full supension bike skittish thru' that 1st rocky section - I guess that once you start to lose with slicks it you will have nothing on the edge of the tyres regain grip & help recover control.....
  5. The Durbanville route sounds like a good one.... do yo have any details of it? One of the ideas that came to mind was to head out Durbanville way, get on a dirt road and just pedal (track the route with a GPS) We have being doing mostly hill work but need some distance which you dont really get at Tokai and up Majik Forest way Ian
  6. Hmmm... Did the 25 at Koeberg a couple of weeks ago... fast and flat....so it looks like x4 Tokai is a haul all the way up .....then I look at that mast & it looks at me and I take the Silvermine route.....went up there once in very cloudy weather - eep it was cold - feet were still frozen with no feeling when we got back down to the parking lot.... going to do the 42 in The Burger MTB tomorrow .... We have been told that even though there is a Nett Downhill in the K2C you always seem to be going Uphill!! Ian
  7. Hi I am new to the Hub so I hope this serves as an Intro and the route boffins can help.... We are doing the Karoo to Coast in September and need to do some long flat distance routes of round 100 Ks... Does anbody know of or can suggest a route in the Cape Town, Stellenbosch area or surrounds etc ... Ian
  8. There is a 4wd trail that you can take down to Die Hel if you get special permission (I did it in 2007)so you shoul be able to ride down - I would take lots of water - there is a boom gate you go through (I think I remember correctly) Ian
