  1. Columbus. You can see the little white dove on red oval columbus logo on the seat tube
  2. The fork is an old Lauf Trail Racer that I got re-sprayed to match the frame - was previously a matt black / carbon colour.
  3. 36 / 16. The crank is a very old 120bcd, so 36 is the minimum it can fit - but perfect ratio for the mostly flat spruit!
  4. Check out my new ride! Frame painstakingly built by the legendary Dave Mercer, paint by Jared_BMC, lots of help from Ryan at Bikes Etc (old Mikes Bikes) to source and fit parts. More than 1 year in the making See you on the spruit!
  5. I AM THE ORIGINAL POSTER - please read! As I mentioned in my reply (post #123) - this issue is resolved! I have got my advice to machine the hub and thats what I'm going to do. Thanks to a couple of peeps who have already inboxed me to get in contact for this and all the support etc. Riyad asked for my bank details this morning, but I'm not interested in any money - the machining will be much cheaper than replacing the hub and rebuilding the wheel so I'll foot that cost myself. If he insists then I've suggested he make a donation to qhubeka.org instead - that way we all win. Now everyone get back to work!
  6. Thanks man - but if you look carefully at the messages, I only took 2 weeks (seller exaggerated it in his colourful story to 3 weeks). They were dropped at my parents house in CT (5th Jan), couriered to my work over 3 days to JHB, spent a couple days at work while I was on the road, spent 5 days at the bikeshop getting tubbies fitted, and then discovered they didn't fit my cassette on 20th Jan. But 2 weeks, 3 weeks, calling someone a scammer, a cheat, 10 speed, 11 speed, whats the difference. Just play innocent and confused and you can get away with anything!
  7. WOW! I honestly didn't intend for this to blow up. Thanks @Riyad for replying - I thought you had maybe blocked me on whatsapp or something because I hadn't had a reply for a week. Lets get to facts - it's clear that we need to see the whatsapp conversation to confirm whether I'm guilty of being nasty in all the ways that I'm being accused (deformation of character, calling you a cheater and a scammer, shafting me, etc). Please take a look in your own whatsapp history before you post garbage for all these hubbers to read - I'm not sure why you would make this stuff up when I can simply upload the whatsapp history? Whatsapp history available here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1ViAP-D7mv_RHpBS09ud0RXX2s Please feel free to read through and make up your own mind guys. I am fairly comfortable that I dealt with you incredibly well considering the situation, so at least I can sleep well tonight. Thank you to everyone that offered up a bunch of great solutions. I thought I was stuck with replacing hub as the only option, but I will find out about the machining option, especially if others have had good success. @Riyad - I'm happy to call this issue dead - unfortunately I don't yet qualify as a "guy with big pockets" - but I actually don't want anything from you. Best regards, Tom
  8. Wow didnt expect this response. Appreciate the support. I have sent the link to this post to the seller and await his response. If nothing comes of it i will dump everything i have tomorrow morning. Is that reasonable?
  9. Thanks dude - I might take you up on this. I will count spokes tonight.
  10. Wow thanks guys. I've got a screenshot of original ad (thanks to google cache), and also a full history of whatsapp conversations. Considering the options - my ideal would probably be to have the seller refund the cost of replacing the hub - the wheels seem good and i've already fitted brand new (expensive) tubbies... they just don't fit my bike!
  11. Hi Guys - I need some advice on how to get this sorted out. I bought a set of wheels advertised as "11 speed / 10 speed with spacer" from a local hubber (with fairly good rep) beginning of January. I was prepping for 70.3, so was a bit rushed and as the wheels arrived via courier I sent them direct to my LBS to get new tubbies fitted. Anyways, it turns out that a few days after getting them back from the shop I discovered they were actually 10 speed only.... grrrr. Obviously I got back in touch with the seller and after lots of back-and-forth sending photos and measurements he conceded that he had made a mistake and actually was "selling them for a friend who had told him they were 11 speed". I suggested that I remove the new tubbies and return them for a full refund. He responded a few days later with a long whatsapp full of excuses about how his friend has now "spent all the money" and won't be able to refund me, and that he suggests that I just list them again on classifieds and try to sell them to get my money back. I've refused this - because the price I paid is probably too high for 10 speed wheels - and why should I be stuck with this problem? I've simply been screwed over here. I've offered to return the wheels for a full-refund, also offered to be refunded a partial amount to cover a replacement 11 speed hub - and at this stage he has stopped replying to my whatsapps... Any advice from anyone thats been in a similar situation? I've only ever had good experiences with buying and selling on the hub and believe the reputations for people should speak for themselves.
  12. I was racing around the spruit this afternoon and taking the corner a bit quick onto the bridge below bantam drive, hit my wrist on the rail and my forerunner 910xt went flying... Immediately stopped and jumped down into the river to try find it, but it had literally dissappeared. As i was frantically searching a couple of local dogwalkers stopped to help, and after 5 minutes i had a gang of about 15 people (and 4 dogs) combing the area for my watch! We eventually found it after a concerted and coordinated effort... Whew! I know spruit people are cool (i am one of them!) but i was seriously taken aback by peoples willingness to get invoved and help me out without my even asking. Makes me feel proud to be part of this community! Thanks spruiters!
  13. Checkout my latest project - rebuilding an ex-probike Storck Aero 2 IS. *Hoping* to have the bike ready for IMSA2015 next year... http://www.tomwells.org/building-the-storck/ (Not sure the rules, but as I progress I'll post updates to my blog, and bump here?)
  14. I bought a pair of Aqua Sphere K180 goggles couple weeks ago from Sportsman Warehouse - I've gearing up for another IMSA training season and went looking for a higher quality and sleeker designed goggle than the Speedo I used this year. First few swims with the Aqua Spheres were brilliant - great clear lenses and very snug and comfortable. However - last week they began leaking during my weekly swim around the Emmerentia Dam - first in the right eye and then a few minutes later in the left eye! I had to stop in the middle of the dam to take a look (while my swimming buddy left me in the dust), and discovered than the rubber was separating from the plastic frame (it looks like it's glued on). So had to finish the last 600meters without googles! I've attached a couple pics which clearly show the separation of rubber from frame - both left and right sides. Anyone else experienced these goggles disintegrating after a few weeks of light swimming? What goggles would you guys recommend I replace these rubbish things with?
