  1. I'm guessing you want to have more power on the bike ....rather than wanting to be heavier (more muscle) on the bike ? So yes, you do need to train with weights to help you increase your power....and even your power endurance longer into a ride. BUT, you need heavy, heavy weights with low reps......rather than 75% of your 1 rep max for 10 reps (this will build superfluos muscle you don't need on climbs). Contrary to popular belief, Heavy weights, with low reps will NOT build additional unnecassary muscle.....but it will make you more powerful on the bike, and help you to maintain a higher ave speed, for longer amounts of time.... Same concept as Olympic powerlifters.....the winner is the lightest (strongest) person in the body weight catergory, that can lift the heaviest weight. Deadlifts, Single leg press, Bulgarian squats, weighted step ups etc are the way to go. PLEASE get a qualified person to help you with technique when you start, as you will probably hurt yourself if technique is shoddy in the beginning. Good luck
  2. Sorry man, my personal opinion = i think this is immensely lame. While i understand there is ''new'' ownership of the event, and its the 10 year Anniversary and the organisers are wanting to breath new life into the W2W....i just cannot bring myself to say ''Hey, im doing the Shiraz/Chardonnay/Pinotage this year''. I think its cringeworthy, and the marketing department should have a proper word with themselves. AND, looks like price for Lux accomm has increased the price considerably YOY. Doesn't mean i wont do it.....
  3. Their socks have got better.....much better !
  4. Hi Loyiso They both have their merits and advantages bud. I have both. The roof mounted bike rack is BRILLIANT if you are going to be travelling on a dirt road on the way to a MTB event. With the bike on the roof you will arrive at your destination with hardly a speck of dust on your bike. With your bike on a rear mounted towbar carrier rack your bike will be unrecognisable after 10kms on a dusty dirt road. If you are going to be travelling on tar to JHB then a rear mounted bike rack is perfect. If you ever decide to travel to a MTB race that has more than 10km of gravel/dirt road i would suggest you take you bike apart and put it in your boot or fold back seats down etc. Enjoy !
  5. What a truly bizarre thing to say. ''Every cycling store.....' Wow. If life is about choice....then choose not to go into their store. As your mom said to you all those years ago, ''if you have nothing nice to say....''
  6. Thanks Koei Just a quick question please ? How much of day 1 and day 2 overlap ? I am intersted in doing it but dont want to do both days if the course is very similar on both days. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks
  7. I was not happy with myself.........my mission was to get to the top without stopping or walking....i came close in the first two kays......then it does get slightly better. But its a hard climb.
  8. I did Epic with 2 x 10 lasy year and was happy i did. We finished in the top 40%. I did Tankwa this year with 1 x 11.....32 x 11/42 and it was barely manageable on day 2 which had 2000m of climbing in 90km's. I would say 1 x 10 with only a 40 on the back will be very hard going on some of the uphill ST bits by the 2nd half of the week. I would seriously consider 30 upfront and get a 42 on the back for Epic.....or go 2 x 10.
  9. Slowbee, i think you HAVE to do this race and certainly if you are based in Cape Town. Having said that it is by no means a doddle. The daily distances are meaty, as is how they dish up the vertical ascent. The surfaces you ride on are mostly tough and treacherous.....with just enough district road thrown in. This would make something like the W2W course look like nursery school. Its as tough as it gets for a 3 day event.....but the service, food and race village vibe far outweigh the suffering !
  10. Spot on bud. These guys know how to stock and manage water points. As you say, EVERY drink at the water points was ICE COLD. Incredible food at the waterpoints as well. And great smiles and service from everyone. The route is tough as nails if you go in undergunned ito prep. Just one correction -MC is Paul Valstar and not Paul Kaye. I sometime wish Paul Kaye was there.
  11. MY Grandfather said....''Go and do the Tankwa Trek and see how some race organisers just get the water tables so BRILLIANTLY RIGHT'' Dryland events should take the Advendurance crew on a little imbizo somewhere and teach them how to do it......
  12. Hey Guys Yup, the new Green belt trails are really a fantastic addition. Really great fun ! As Myles Says, please lets treat all trail users with massive respect. So DO NOT go sneaking up on dog walkers, runners etc and scare the hell out of them. Please announce yourself courteously and slow down to an acceptable speed. Please remember this is available to MTB's on a trial basis for one year......if we act like chops it will be off limits again. Please enjoy but be responsible. Thanks
  13. what am i doing wrong ? I cannot find mine even after typing in my SAS number or surname ?
  14. Probably the most ridiculous thing ever said on the Hub. Are you joking ?
