  1. My fellow inmates, Does anybody else think it's in rather poor tastes to be receiving Early Bird eantry requests in these rather testing times? I think the Comms' machine of Tankwa Trek, TransCape and Cycle Events should be a little more sensitive to our current situation in the country. Or maybe it is just me! Stay safe and stay at home....
  2. Hi At almost 100kg, I changed from XTR to SRAM Guild as the XTR could not cope and overheated, even with Icetech rotors and pads. Since changing, I never had any issues and think the brakes are great. Certainly more modular the XTR which to me, feel on/off. Any future breaks will always be SRAM for me. Hope that helps?
  3. Thanks mate. A real shame it no longer works as advertised...
  4. Hi Frosty Thanks for comments. So how do you upload then if not via Strava. Do you do it manually? For me, I can even import a Garmin / Strava file? Thanks
  5. Hi Is not just me or is FitTrack.co.za not working as advertised. I have been using it for many years as it local, nice and simple. It's meant to read your Strava account and populate your workouts. Recently mine has stopped doing just that. To add to my frustrations, I can't upload the file manually either. Looking at the interface, it needs an update and the Garmin Communicator was phased out years ago... And second frustration is the lack of response to my emails with regards to this. Anybody else having these issues? PS - Yes I know I can use Training Peaks or Garmin Connect or Strava, but I like FitTrack as I use the training programs. Thanks...
  6. Hi I don't have an E - Bike but think they are good for the sport on the whole. It gets people out on the bike when they would not be... Unfit , overweight etc. Also allows weaker mates to ride with stronger mates. I agree there should be a E-Bike category at the races, but if there is not, so what... More bikers more fun. Where they place in the race means nothing to me but what I have seen and completely disagree with is a E-Bike pulling a normal MTB into a top 10 finish. Thats just wrong! As for Strava, you can change the Sport from Ride to E-Bike ride, but either people don't know that or don't care to be honest about it. Long live the E-Bike... It has its place!
  7. Hi I ride FOX and only ever had excellent service from Ominco. Often get it back the same day if I drop it off myself or latest following day. Ominco always seem to get a bad rap but I only ever had top draw service from them...
  8. Hi I have the 735 and I am very happy with it. Over the years I seem to have had many Garmin's. What that tells me is electronic watches don't last. The eventual **** the bed and normally a week / month after the warranty expires. When that happens, NavWolrd will have you covered. Top shop that! My 735 is fantastic but I'm on my second one already. It does everything I need but does not have a barometer. For me, not a big deal but if you a serious rider and need accurate altitude, then consider the 935. My advise is buy the cheapest watch that ticks all your boxes as eventual they will fail. (Well mine have...) Having said all of the above, in my view Garmin are the best and worth getting for multi sport. For cycling only get the Edge and be done with it.... Hope that helps.
  9. Hi I have been tubeless for a few years now and use Schwalbe One Pro. To date, around 6000 km and no issues... I see no reason to run tubes again, road or MTB. Maybe you were unlucky or maybe your tyres are crap? Get some Schwalbe's and stick with tubeless is my vote...
  10. Hi For my daily riding I don't carry one, however for my 2 Epics I carried a spare tube with Stans sealant pre loaded. I never needed them as I was fortunate and invested in good tyres. I recently stumbled onto Nube Tubeless with is trickle down for Moto Enduro's "mousse" - It's basically a pool noodle inside your tyre. It weighs less than nothing unlike some others I have seen. You still inflate your tyre with sealant, but should you have a major sidewall cut, you can still ride home. It also allows you to run lower pressure over the rocks with no risk of wheel damage. For me, it's the end of spare tubes. I have been running these for about 6 months and super stoked with how they work. Won't be long before a local version will be available... https://www.facebook.com/Nube-Tubeless-450869395037503/
  11. Hi If you over 85kg, I would go with the Guides... More stopping power. And don't be afraid to upsize your rotors. I changed from XTR to Guid Ult. with 180mm rotors and never looked back, but I'm 95kg and the XTR overheated. Hope that helps?
  12. ... and there Santa Crus has a life time warranty...
  13. I see no reason why the std Scott Twinloc below the bar lever won't work. I did the same on my bike with no issues...
  14. That really sucks! It seems like Stellenboosch is real hotspot. I agree the security will have plenty on, but when replacement bikes are north of R50k, why not have some sort of rider ID like at the stage races. Rider gets a bracelet and it matches a race number. It certainly would make the security job much easier and might stop the skelems in cycling kit. Or a bike park. If the CTCT can do it, I'm sure a smaller MTB race can too. Not easy, but something needs to be done...
