    Give it a TRI

Joined the Strava group, haven't done an event since 2015 UTI Cape Town. Getting my legs back and loosing weight. Where is the best website to get info on events? ndorfin looks a bit dormant. Will need to start on some shorter events for fun and motivation.
  2. I got the Hoka Mafuta from them. I am a heavy runner and rather designed to play no.2 in Rugby than run and cycle. I have been to Podiatrists and owned just about all shoes there is. My cupboard looks like a bad shoe sale. Lately Brookes Cascadia range has been better than the rest that I tried. Last year in Portugal I got a cheap pair of New Balance shoes at Decathlon and they worked for a while, then the Compression syndrome sets in and I end up getting new insoles made. It is so frustrating as I never get to a point that I can run more than 2 x 5km + runs a week. I got the Hoka's in February and the first run was beyond awkward, I felt so slow being used to Brookes Cascadia and the super light New Balance shoes. I inserted my heal inserts and it got better. I have done 2 x 7km trail runs in the last 6 days and two MTB rides. My legs are fine. If you are a light person this extra padding may be overkill and I definitely feel they rob me of some "spring" in my stride, but I am enjoying my running for the first time in forever. So for me a cheap shoe robs me of training repetiveness, but I would love to run in a lightweight pair of Maxed shoes at R500!!
  3. Morning anybody Camping at Sandrift or surrounds Easter weekend. I am going and maybe somebody wants to go for some rides. I know most of the sections around Sandrift. There is always so many MTB's but we all stay on our own not wanting to intrude and be that oke at the campsite that barges in on others privacy. I am camping on Kliphuis side.
  4. I hear the wife had to cheer you on from behind. Friday night was still in the legs otherwise a sub 3?
  5. My first had no idea of what I would do. started in charity group and then reached Noordhoek in under 3hr and realized my 5 hr goal is not to difficult and ended up finishing in 4;15. Respect to all the organizers and support along the route. To all the keep left look right go right people !!!!!! Too many out there. Maybe next year I start before the finishers have had there second beer.
  6. Was there last year as a fitter fat bloke, now just a fat bloke. Will be there Sunday in my pretpakkie AKA Tri-agesuit
  7. Hoekom is my tone vandag dood?????? Thx to Dirtopia for a great event. My wheels came of after 7 laps on Saturday, the heat beat me. I drank enough and rested after 3 laps, everything went Ok and then I just lost my drive after cramps started warning me. Had a good sleep and woke up on Sunday feeling fresh. Only did 12 laps missed my 15 lap goal, but still know I had a proper ride. To the 18 lap plus crowd well done it takes a special drive. I think if you haven't done a lap of Oak valley you will never understand the burn of each climb. Next year........
  8. Ingeskryf........Why I don't know. Hated it last year.
  9. https://www.hammernutrition.com.au/info-centre/steve-born-mountbike-race-tips/ When I read this my plan of living of Steri stumpies and biltong seems a little inadiquite. But seriously I have only done one and last years some of the blokes in my team or that camped near us had stomach cramps and the state of the toilets gave clues that more than one person had the trots. I think you need to realise that such a high concentration energy drinks and Gu's will upset some. I suppose that is why I enjoy the Steri Stumpie so much.
  10. I need to sort out some super local anesthetic killing bum cream. Last year the morning monkey bum was a serious problem. otherwise I will replace the energy drinks with Red Heart Rum. As for getting molested on the ST.... I weigh 100kg Gravity likes fat blokes on bikes when going down a mountain As for goals, I have one don't bomb and not finish, anything over double figure laps will be good.
  11. Looks like their might be some rain. Last year there was also promise of some rain. I am getting excited for some laps.
  12. Yip, it is because of him I have entered solo. Last year after my 100km mark as part of a team I was feeling real sorry for myself and he just came grinding past. RESPECT!!!!!! I will be going solo. Hoping to reach double figure laps, training not where it should be. Great event, my only complaint was the riders that withdrew their teams last year and then ended up partying it up all night last year.
  13. 20-22 November is the legendary Eselfontein Fees. Watch out for the Friday night party it hurts when you reach Redbull Hill. They are starting the events earlier to try beat the worst heat.
  14. This is Enduro... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enduro
  15. Finding shoes that work must be amazing!!!! I have a pair of Asic Trabuco, Salomon 3D. older Salomon wings and now Brookes Cascadia 9. They are also fitted with inserts made by Podiatrist. I struggle with heavy Compartment syndrome in my left leg. I cannot do more than 2 x 8km trail runs a week otherwise my legs will be busted for 5 days or more. Next step is surgery to relieve the pressure problems. Or stop running and just cycle, but what is the fun in that. Sometimes I think the shoes, cycling gear, and most sporting equipment associated with endurance sports are aimed at the 1.9m 75kg snakes. Ex Rugby no.2's and heavier build vertically challenged are not catered for.
