  1. This article is a bit of a joke. 1. The guy behind the victim called SAPS and they didn't even respond. For attempted murder... 2. The public gave SAPS (specifically CIG) all the necessary info to go and arrest the guy that advertised and sold the bike (Brandon Jansen) - https://www.facebook.com/brandon.jansen.165). Brandon lives in Jamestown btw. 2. CIG then followed it up and SAPS took Brandon in for questioning. They then got hold of the person he sold the bike to, and went to Cape Town to pick up the bike. So "beamptes het leidrade op sosiale media opgevolg" is a lie. I know because I was the one giving it to CIG. 3. I've spoken to Sgt Moses. He doesn’t seem to be on top of this case. (1) It's been weeks since the incident and he doesn't have an affidavit from the victim, or the person riding behind the victim. (2) He knows who the two main suspects are through the work done by CIG. They haven’t been arrested. There’s enough proof via Brandon and other 3rd parties involved to build a solid case. So apart from the work done by CIG (really great work, the W/O went out of his way to get this case some momentum, followed up the leads, identified the suspects, etc ), Sgt Moses doesn’t seem to have done much - feel free to call him and follow up - I see his number is in the article. What I've learnt: We need to start waking up to the current state of crime in this country and make time to get involved. If we as citizens don't, then nothing will get done and these perpetrators will keep on going, fueling drug houses, syndicates and luring other young jobless into the occupation of robbery/armed-robbery and it will just keep getting worse. SAPS as a body is incapable of effectively fighting crime alone. A large portion of the few cases that actually make it court are either thrown out or don't lead to proper jail time. And this just repeats itself and the criminals become more and more brazen.
  2. It's often coloured guys from Idas Valley walking or standing next to the road - anything from the start of the climb, to basically the old pass entrance opposite Graff. Have also been attacked by knife on Helshoogte pass. Luckily got away without anything stolen.
  3. Maybe just some more info on this. An elderly gentleman (71) was attacked on Blaauwklippen Road on Saturday morning 2024/01/13. He saw a guy with a hoody standing in the road as he reached the top of the Stellenrust farm climb. He couldn't turn around and decided to ride into the attacker. He was then thrown off his bike, hurt his shoulder very badly (think he broke his collarbone), and was then hit with a short type of panga in the face - across his cheek and nose. He lost consciousness at some point. Two coloured guys attacked him and stole his cellphone and bike. Another rider about 20-30 meters behind him saw the 1 attacker standing over him. At this point the victim was unconscious, lying face down on the tar. SAPS and an ambulance were called. SAPS didn't come. A case with Stellenbosch SAPS was opened. We've assisted SAPS where we can and made some good progress on the case. It seems like the attackers came from Jamestown (neighborhood a few hundred meters from the attack). We can share some more details once the attackers have been found. We've also reached out to a lawyer to assist with compiling the docket etc. as we want to push for attempted murder.
  4. Post of the year. More please. Emotionally I need a lot more of these.
  5. Is there a plate for the car? Has it been flagged?
  6. We’re very spoiled in the Western Cape 👏🏻
  7. You can download a route onto the 130 and then ride that route. It's not as nice as Strava on a mobile phone though.
  8. Yes - my comment was ignorant and I made the wrong judgment call. Now get over it.
  9. In collaboration with Law Enforcement and SAPS, we've created a Bicycle Safety Whatsapp Group in Stellenbosch - if you're in the area and want to be added, please DM me. We have a few control rooms with private security, Law Enforcement and SAPS on the group and can hopefully, over time, use the local cameras to track and catch the suspects. If you have any info (case numbers, investigating officer, footage, suspect photo or details), please also get in contact with me.

  11. The pepperballs are pretty crap. Go with heavy plastic or solid steel. The Umarex HDP 50 is around R3,000 on takealot - hy gaan baie seer maak..
  12. Interesting topic. I think me and a lot of others share/shared the view that as long as I’m okay or my family is okay, burglars can take what they want. But something happened that shook me deeply - now I’m tired of crime and tired of people walking around looking for someone to rob. This time it’s me, next time it’s a much more vulnerable women or someone’s daughter. The more thieves, murderers, rapists get away with this, the more they’re going to do it. I have an obligation towards those around me, so I cannot sit idle anymore. I got a Amarex HDP 50 (0.5 cal CO2 gun) and a baton. Will probably cycle with the baton. If someone comes onto our property, I’m shooting (non lethal solid plastic pellets) will ask questions later. If I can’t shoot then I’m going to break bones with the baton. Enough is enough.
  13. Facebook marketplace is the new Gumtree.
  14. What type of energy meter is this? We have a 3-phase Synsunk and need to get a proper electrician to Stellenbosch as we are often overloading the inverter and then it trips. Something like this sounds like a good safeguard.
