  1. If it was Me throwing my own money into the wheel purchase pool.... carbon clinchers on disc hubs.elimanates so many of the issues, without a massive added weight. (Arguable im sure).. but if you a 90 kilo banana boy like me, does my 1kg set of lightweight tubbies make it better???
  2. I ride on a set of Lightweight Millenstein Tubs (25mm Tufo's) some would say 'the best wheels in the world'. They are wonderful to ride, extremely responsive, roll like a dream, and generally ridiculously fast. That being said i feel The downside to owning tubs for me: 1) carrying a spare tyre/gas/2 sided tape and the CO2 + a good half hour change time + having a all that stuff on you, whilst you roll around on a bike you have spent Thousands on trying to weigh as little as possible. 2)once its flat or semi damaged, unless you a maestro at sewing rubber tyres, you cry... and put new! 3) uber doesnt operate deep in the swiss alps, i know this....my boss on the same wheels flatted,it became a long day out waiting for help to arrive! Unless you have a support car,or riding within a hour of home, or enjoy carrying a back pack of spares to fix a flat, i cant justify owning tubs. *and yes, try selling 2nd hand tubbies, especially lightweights....it aint easy!
  3. For years i stashed so much junk in my jersey pockets, packed like an African school bus....why?? Top tube bag for the win.saddle bag for the win too. Go do some big miles, 200-300km rides and they great.
  4. Lago Maggiore. Looking down on Ascona. Rather Good.
  5. Hey Before i go to the hassle of dealing with classifieds and uploading pictures, i thought i would check on this thread of online racing maniacs to see if anyone wanted to buy a powertap hub and cpu and all the bits? i have 2 sets , both in good shape, freshly serviced and with all the bits and bobs. PM me of you keen! skadonk101@yahoo.co.uk If not- look forward to the next thrashing online.
  6. Ooooooh wow. Some of you threw down the Hammer of Thor tonight! I totally over estimated the size of that final climb, thought it was going to be a steep monster.... live and learn. Good race!
  7. Throw more hot water on the Ants nest.....i cannot wait to read More!

  9. Hey. I signed up for some suffering... im in sweden for 5 weeks and need some pain and sweat to get me through the darkness. Monday sounds good.
  10. http://tdaglobalcycling.com/ We take fully supported tours all around the Globe. The 'main' tour is Tour 'd Afrique. 12000km Race from Cairo to CapeTown.120 days.fully supported. Gravel Grinder Bikes are perfect, plenty open tarred roads in Africa, but also plenty chronic Gravel Sections. Other Tours also vary in length and Time, but you sure as hell get fit and strong.
  11. Hey. I have just seen this thread and read all the guys getting a buzz off Gravel grinding...great to see. I have done a fair bit, infact alot i guess. I crossed Africa (cairo to Capetown) on a Cinelli Bootleg CycloX, and i currently have an Avanti cycloX bike that i have crossed South East Asia, China, Australia and Europe on.... they amazing! any road, any speed. ( i did try Oak Valley 24hr race, but withdrew after 13 hours of solid riding and raw hands! - shocks may have helped) My brother works for the same company, he had Local Legend Frame Builder Dave Mercer build him a Gravel Grinder for the Trips. Steel is Real! Thought I'd add a few pictures just for the hell of it.... maybe it will inspire some of you?! I work for a company that crosses Continents by bicycle, fully supported. Once a year on the trip through Africa, they pass through Namibia and through the Cederberg just before reaching 'home' in CapeTown. - for any gravel grinder, its the best off road road racing you can dream of! Fast Gravel Roads of Namibia is an adrelanine rush all day on these bikes!!! cheers..happy sweating and suffering.
