  1. Far more profitable for the Epic to have riders pull out / not make cut-off. Catering for 800 people for 8 days versus planning to start catering for 800 people and taper it down to 400 7 days later.
  2. Not sure if I am at fault. But I'm looking for a specific saddle. It comes up now and then in the classifieds off of someones new bike and they change the saddle. Problem is the saddle is advertised on here as new and at full market price. I query and offer less based on the fact I am not getting any warranties with the product. Am I being unreasonable or not?
  3. Where does the bike hub community stand on this issue. This bike was advertised not long ago for R35k. I was sad I missed out when contacting seller. Now being resold for R50k. Is it just my bad luck or is this not right? https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/405564/specialized-epic-expert-xl-bm4187
  4. I had an interesting experience last month. I broke one of my brake levers after hitting a fence. With Sani coming up I went straight to a nearby cycle shop to replace the lever. Mechanic gives me a quote for new Shimano SLX levers and labor cost and I immediately/incorrectly assume I'm getting over charged. I quickly review some popular online stores and to my surprise the 2 online stores I quickly looked at while standing in the shop all had Shimano SLX brake levers on sale with a large discount advertised. The one online store had a banner of "30% off". The funny thing though is that the price for the brakes on these websites and what I was getting charged at the bike shop differed by maybe R100. And that includes the labor to fit the brakes. I asked the mechanic if the brakes were on special and he replied "No. That is our normal price". So I started comparing items in the shop to the same items on these 2 online stores, and the prices for the same products were identical and in some cases cheaper than the online stores. Even though the online stores had "10/20/30% off banner" over the product. It was only then that I saw on 1 of the sites, the marked discount is based on "RRP". So the discount offered or advertised by the online stores is not necessarily a discount on their normal selling price, it is more a discount percentage on some arbitrary recommended selling price of the product. Is this legally misleading or false advertising? Probably not. Is this a clever way to mislead me to drive sales and hype around drawing attention to "40/50/60%" discounts? Yes.
  5. This is where the law should be amended to have an outcome that should the culprit remain at the scene to assist the cyclist and he/she is under the influence, the law should punish accordingly. And if the culprit leaves the scene whether under the influence or not; the law should punish in probably a stricter manner than under the influence. Because fleeing the scene of an accident just highlights that you are not a decent human and probably should be removed from society for your transgressions.
  6. I found a camelback in the parking area after our ride yesterday (11 Feb) at around 11:20am. Please PM me if it is yours or you know who's camelback it is. Thanks
  7. This was my 3rd year in a row and it was the best route and ride out of the 3 years. Well done guys! I thinking seeding riders is a must for next year due to the growth of the event. I'm a solid mid-pack rider and within the first 10kms of riding I almost got taken out 3 times by faster riders having absolutely no regard for the safety of people they were over taking. I can only imagine they arrived late to the venue and hence were stuck near the back of the start chute.
  8. I thought it was a fantastic event! The setting was spectacular and Stillwater Sports managed the event extremely well and professionally. I was expecting and easy pedal over the weekend but I struggled out there. The route was far tougher than I anticipated and I was grateful that the water points are well stocked.

    Sani2c 2016

Hi hubbers. I recently changed to a 1X11 setup with a 34t. It has been great and worked just fine for the spruit, up Northcliff Hill, Modder, Northern Farm but on a training ride at Suikerbos yesterday I was fine up until the last big climb. My legs had no power left and I made it to the top in my worst strava time. My question now is, should I change to a 32t for Sani or take a 32t with and get mechanic to change for day 2 only. I'm not too worried about day 1 and 3 on a 34t. Day 2 scares me alot.
  10. I start Kyalami, head through Sunninghill and onto Spruit at Witkoppen. Go all the way through to Emmarentia/Botanical Gardens, then up Northcliff Hill and back to Kyalami. Gives me about 85km in about 5hrs30min.
  11. My company is experiencing an uptick with women with the same MO. Walk in with big hand bags and clean out our Nescafé Gold on our shelves. Happened in Pretoria one week and in Sandton the next. The one lady managed to get 9 Nescafé Gold's into her handbag while her friend distracted the security in the next aisle.
  12. Myself and my family make use of an optometrist friend. All Oakley and Ray-Ban glasses tend to be anywhere between 30%-50% cheaper than "Sunglass hut" prices. I can easily believe the OP's statements.

    Serengeti MTB

I did a ride from Serengeti to Delmas Road on Sunday. It was muddy. A little stream that we normally cross was up to my waste and a farmer in his 4X4 was stuck in there. Granted this was after the rains on Saturday so it should have improved by then.

  15. So for 2 years I've been relying on the gauge on my pump to set my tyre pressure at 1.9bar rear and 1.6bar front. I weigh 93kg's. Last week I went and bought a digital pressure gauge and according to that; what I thought was 1.9bar is in fact 1.6 bar and my front tyre was not 1.6ar but 1.3bar. Now my question is do I leave it at 1.6 and 1.3 cause I never had any issues or do I change to the correct 1.9 and 1.6 which feels way hard now.
