  1. Thks everyone for your comments ; I concur ,used to be a great summer evening ride ;after work . Unfortunately the "detritus" has mounted in the area . Should anyone be interested let me know .0834471179 Hout bay resident
  2. Anyone ridden up the Karbonkelberg mountain behind Hangberg in recent times. Used to be a good hour ride to the top overlooking dungeons surf break. unfortunately was badly eroded the last time we tried a couple of years ago . Be interested to hear your comments
  3. I was not aware that such a device existed time to get your knowledge updated Check any giant website in the 1st world . look for Giant Conduct Disc Brake,Giant dealers only
  4. Anyone have a tool used above for Giant Conduct cable/hydraulic disc brake adopter ? If so would you be able to hire it for setting the hydraulic unit after fitting ? or do the setting thks Tony 0834471179 Hout bay
  5. Nothing changes. Back in the day if you raced the Argus when there was a registered race in the area and a jacket saw you it was a suspension . Something about having power over lesser mortals !!!!
  6. Been riding 650 scalpel 2012 conversions for 5 years . Only problem has been tires to fit rear ,usually touch chain stays here's the list so far that work . 2.0 Sanguro, 2.0 Ralph Honey badger 2 0 maxi Crossmark Scalpel was particulary suitable, as in 26 form would collect rocks etc, on a frequent basis . If your interested,I have available probably the last of the 2012 Scalpels Medium ,been hanging in my attic for 18 months .recently converted . Have just decided to ride the 2017 Scalpel that's a full 29er . Complete rig around 10kgs for around 21K.depending on component choice . .
  7. 1,76m saddle 74 . Ridden Scapels from the time they were 1st made . Ride a small, enjoy the shorter wheelbase, the abilty to "weight" the rig easily for climbing and decending . You can always raise the saddle and user a longer stem ,that's especially significant if you want to use wide bars . good luck with the bike ,
  8. Watch the cranks ground clearance if you like to pedal hard into corners.
  9. Bring back raw trails ,all these berms just made for wan bees on their Ebikes ! CHAoS!
  10. These motors put out about 80 watts for short periods,so recharging station needed at the drinks table !. Giving an average JOe generates about 160/180 watts for the race distance, add a 40Kg weight to their bike. Sorted on any decent climb !
  11. Try to avoid spinning up the back wheel, keep a low cadence and bigger gear. Avoid sudden changes of direction by trying to pick the most direct line, looking further ahead than normal and stay committed to the line. Weight the bike a bit more to the front . Lastly PRACTICE and then do It again !
  12. If its carbon it unlikely that the frame is made skew . The best is to take it back to your supplier whom should be able to check by placing a loose axel into the dropouts ,it can then be readily seen as not sitting square . this can be checked bymeasuring the centre of the axel to the bb shell on both sides if its built skew and its carbon you should get a replacement . If its ali a small amount of "bending" can be accomadated . Otherwise its the cones ,.but big sideways does not sound like cones
  13. YES!!! and 650,29,28.25,770c cross. 700c road . take your pick its ridding
  14. NICE ONE!!! Unfortunately we will all pay the price eventually ,as they will just adjust prices UPWARDS. With the currency adjusted to junk status for import purposes new bikes are going to cost car prices . It's happening already ;200k for Cannondale, rather buy a 2nd hand Ducati 999.and have something of value between your legs! If you shop around its still not worth importing from Chain Reaction most of the time.
  15. If you have a friend who races the road or better still track (taboo word) on tubulars . Scrounge an old tyre from him or her. Rip the tread of the casing and cut a piece 50 *50,or larger out of the carcass. As this carcass has a far higher tread count, some are made of silks, can go 120.and take 10 bar pressure, plus flex. Clean well ;use acetone Glue in with ply bond or similar. Should be good as new , Be careful if the cut is parallel to rim as this can encourage lack of seating thus more likely to burp. good luck with repair
