Thanks for that. Really interesting site. Another question (yeah I know - slightly off thread) what bike did Mattys Beukes ride in the World Cup yesterday? He rode a Scott 27.5 in the Epic as backup to Schurter and Buys but what did he opt for on the XCO course? 29er or 650b again?

Thanks ASG, I think thats a great end to the thread. I have been following this since it was 2 pages long and also watched the CB article. My honest opinion is that the thread has now degenerated to a host of chirps, gags (admitedly some of which are occasionally funny) and plain ridiculous comments by trolls looking for attention, all of which are as far as I am concerned. I see the number of followers is also declining. I would still like to know whether AA eventually gets his refund or if his lawyer does a Gerrie Buldog on him but this can be gleaned from following him. One other thing I have learned by following this thread is that there are are some hubbers here who have a wealth of experience and knowledge to impart (also humour) all while delivering great comments on the particular thread. Does that mean you will be pursuing the CS perps for violating your aforesaid copyrights and making an example of them? Surely this is an opportunity to show all and sundry that you guys are serious about protecting what has been entrusted to you as agents of the said brands? Also a successful prosecution will speak volumes to the industry, not only to prevent future attempts like this, but also will send a message to potential future brands looking for representation in this country that we are serious enough about our responsibilities for them to entrust us with other exotic Marques .

Ok this is getting better. We all know that dealing in fakes is illegal, but their lawyer who should know the law (reasonable assumption ) makes himself an accomplice by drafting a letter where they propose a further sale of an illegal fake? WTF!

100% agree here. If they had originally agreed to give the OP his money back, or even as soon as they became aware of the noise on the hub, it would have cost them the refund money and this would have all blown over already. As it stands, they are going to lose alot more business from this than R91k

Agree. Perhaps, as in your case, the person should talk to a decison maker there. He will probably check the international database and (hopefully) discover that it is indeed a grey imports and not a fake.

Clearly loves to haggle. Or promised his wife that he was going to sell it. Obviously couldn't be responsible if there were no takers, can he??

So, as has been asked since this thread began, someone comes out in defense of the perps. I'm sure there are more that will attest to their being "nice guys etc" but as you clearly state in your post, they have been dealing in fake bikes for some time already. Clearly it's one thing to sell fakes and be open about them being fakes. It is, however, entirely another thing to pass them off as the real deal. That is fraud! I wonder what will happen to the other fake bike owners, if the OP gets a judgement in his favour and receives his money back or other compensation. This will open the door for the other guys to also lodge claims for the fraudulent bikes sold to them. Lastly, your statement that they didn't know the law, doesn't ring true (I'm not saying you were lying, but them making such a claim) as they have been in the industry for many years (as is stated on their website) and one would assume that they should know the industry well by this time, including the scourge of fake bikes in the market and the damage being done to official importers and retailers.
