  5. Used to ride tubbies, and loved them... although ended up riding Conti Gatorskin tubbies with a little sealant which gave away a lot of the legendary tubby ride quality in the pursuit of puncture resistance and longevity. I've been riding road tubeless for slightly more than 2 years now, and wouldn't go back. Small amount of sealant has meant very few issues in tens of thousands of km. My personal experience has been very dependent on tire choice, and slightly less dependent on rim/tire combo. Initial setup was Easton EC90 Aero 55's with Schwalbe Pro One TL (great)... had to replace with Hutchinson 11Storm TL on a trip to the Alps (rubbish, steer clear) and then tried GP5000TL (excellent, highly recommended). With this setup, rolling resistance and grip varied from very good to excellent, but I needed tire levers to seat and compressor to seal, regardless of tire. And tires need to be pumped slightly each week. Bought some Roval CLX32s and S-Works Turbo TL tires last weekend. Tires went on by hand (no levers required), tires seated with a traveling floor pump, so best set-up experience to date. Only a couple of rides in so far, but ride feel, grip and rolling resistance seem great. They also seem to hold pressure 100%. It seems that the newer TL tire/rim combinations work better than earlier versions - and it's only going to get better with all the R&D going into road tubeless. If you are buying new clinchers, definitely get something that can run tubeless - you can always run tubes initially if you're unsure.
  6. Hey Naas... any chance you can do a deal on (52/34 bundle): https://www.evobikes.co.za/rotor-components/rotor-chainring-road-round-110-5bcd-aero-black.html and https://www.evobikes.co.za/rotor-components/rotor-chainring-road-round-110-5bcd-inner-black.html
  7. I ran Schwalbe Pro One 25c for about 8 months, for a couple thousand Cape Town kilometers and including Paris Roubaix sportive in April and 3 week trip to Alps in July. Most comfortable road tyre I've yet ridden, and no issues at all with sealing with Stans (except when I managed to get a chipboard screw through the sidewall). Soft tread doesn't last the longest, but comfort and grip worth the sacrifice. Forced to change to Hutchinson Fusion 5 (newer ElevenStorm compound) in France - no Schwalbes in the local shops - and have had a far less positive tubeless experience. Grip is good, comfort okay (they run narrower on my Easton EC90's), but they spurt slime on every ride. Were also more difficult to seat. These will soon be replaced by Pro Ones or GP5000's Short answer - with the right rim/tyre combo, tubeless is impossible to beat.
  8. I imported a few things from Germany late December. They arrived last week. I paid the VAT upon delivery to my office So patience is important - especially when dealing with SAPO (good luck contacting them on their customer service number, that requires even more patience!)
  9. Tubeless ready option? Seems not from the article or the website...
  10. Couldn't agree more iCycling. I'm actively involved in, committed to and passionate about the renewable energy / sustainability space but I don't think that conflicts at all with human's obsession with going further/faster/better. Recently watched Louis live halfway up the Angliru, and it was one of the greatest experiences I've had for ages. Absolutely love seeing Louis mixing it up with the greats of the sport, every time he goes out. Take a look at some of the youngsters coming up through the ranks in SA cyscling, and I think we have a lot to be excited about as cycling fans. So actually quite happy for my tax money to be spent on that instead of Gupta deals, bailing out SAA, building a new mega coal fired plant or some stupid nuclear deal! Jewbacca, although I don't question your experiences in the sports space, I do think you're being overly cycnical
  11. I completely agree, if it's okay to race the first 2 weeks and then pull out before the big Alpine stages, why is it not okay to skip the Alpine stages and come in just to contest the final stage up the Champs Elysees? Hypothetical situation I know... but hopefully you get my point! Just to be clear - I'm no fan of Cav. Would have far preferred to see Louis remain in the DD team (with some solid support climbers to assist)
  12. Just a heads-up to all cyclists who ride the Braamfontein Spruit during the week... I was held up at gunpoint close to the Ballyclare bridge on Thursday just after 18h30. Dodgy guy jumped into the path in front of me and pointed a gun at me. After trying to reason with him, he cocked the gun in my face - sense prevailed and I reluctantly handed over the bike... As soon as he had jumped on the bike and started riding back down the Spruit towards Rivonia, I started running after him trying to keep him in my sights. I eventually caught up with him near the scout hall (he wasn't a very good MTB'er) and managed to get some help from some homeless guys on the Spruit, and together we managed to scare him so he crashed and ran away. I was extremely lucky to get my bike back, unharmed. I am working with the police at Morningside Station to make sure we bring this guy to justice... Moral of the story: 1. Don't ride alone, even if you have a new bike that you REALLY want to ride before the weekend! 2. Try to assess the situation, and don't try to take these guys on on your own when they have the advantage 3. Try to keep the thief in your sights once he's ridden off (and is effectively disarmed) - you never know how the situation may turn in your favour. Be safe Matt
  13. I had the same problem, but undid all the knuckle joints and put a bit of carbon assembly compound (the grease with the grit) on each of the interfaces - no longer need to tighten more than finger tight. Definitely agree that the GoPro mounting is the biggest weakness of an otherwise amazing product!
  14. I was riding in the Cradle this morning and saw the Northcliff Cycles crew. Thought they were extremely friendly and didn't seem to be getting in the way too much. And there weren't too many cars on the road, so surprised that you found it so difficult to overtake... Oh well, I guess it's all a matter of perception - maybe you were bleak to be inside a car, and not on your bike, on such a beaut morning
  15. Great concept, but this beta version is rubbish! Picks the workouts up off my 910xt up nicely, but then refuses to upload anything. An 'upload failed' hangs the entire system. I eventually resorted to trying to upload workouts 1 at a time, and even this fails most of the time Discovery - please test your products in future before releasing them onto the market.
