  1. There needs to be more awareness on the roads. Some signs saying - road used by cyclists and some of those little bumps in the road to make drivers look up at the signs. In the north the most used roads are the Bottelary, Wellington (R302) and the (R304).
  2. That was so scary, I was in front at the time did not even see that car till it was too late. Would have take all of us (i think 12) out in one go.
  3. Where are the dangerous wind areas on the route for people with deep sections wheels? I have heard about the camps bay decent - anywhere else? I bought a set this last year and this will be my first year doing the argus with the better quality wheels.
  4. I have an email from Santam stating "The bicycles have cover due to the fact that he is not a professional racer and is only racing for a hobby." I got the mail after requesting confirmation of cover before the knysna cycle tour.
  5. I am insured via Santam. Their documentation also states that they do not insured you bike if it is used in a race...but it is if you do league racing or if you get money for doing the races. For this reason i request confirmation if i will be covered before every race / fun ride.
  6. In my opinion its not a moving part and not prone to wear and tear but a mountain bike frame might be... so i would say no for road bikes but i am sure insurance companies will find many professors willing to state otherwise.
  7. If you do not specify them they fall under general household items section and will only be covered if stolen or damaged while being in the house. If you specify them they are covered under all risk - meaning if anything goes wrong under any condition excluding wear and tear.
  8. I am with Santam through a broker. My most expensive road bike is a Merida reacto it is insured for R29 999 with a premium of R212.09. Actual replacement cost is R32 100. The reason for ensurance difference is the excess. At R 29 999 my excess is R250 for R32 100 my excess is R2 500. My HED wheels are insured for R30 700, premium R215.60 but strange enough the excess on these are only R250.
  9. Finally got santam to specify the wheels separately.
  10. Hi, I have 5 bikes insured with Santam. 3 bikes are mine and other 2 is my wifes and sons. Never had any issues. Very reliable and no problems with payouts. I purchased a set of HED deep section road wheels 2 weeks ago. These wheels are valued around 32k. I have been trying to insure the wheels by themselves but Santam refuses to insure the wheels separately. They are adamant that the wheels need to be insured with a bike. This is obviously pushing the value of the bike they opted to pair it with through the roof which means ill have to pay a ridiculously high excess if anything ever happens to either the bike or wheels. The thing is, I am not going to be using these wheels all the time. I might take them off and use the plain hoops on windy days. I see a problem here - cause what if the wheels are stolen or something but they are not attached to the bike? For example these wheels are now being transported right now...but by themselves - no bike. Imagine there is a accident and the wheels get damaged. How do the rest of you insure your wheels that might be used on more than one bike. - Please feel free to move to another category if i posted in the wrong section.
  11. Dude, a simple "sorry can i come past" is usually is all that is needed.
  12. Hi Does anyone know these type of wheels? I am looking at possibly purchasing these 2nd hand - Does anyone know them? Good or bad? 13. Ok, this explains why there are no clinchers in the classifieds...well none in my area.
  14. I notice that all the deep section carbon wheels in the classifieds are mostly tubbies. Does no-one want tubbies? OR Does this mean no one buys clinchers? I would think that clinchers would be more popular.
  15. I found out that the DarkHorse wheels are not UCI certified. Is this something that i need to worry about if i wish to take part in some western province association league events?
