  1. Nuts! Just dont choke on them when breathing heavily!!
  2. you can all join the wannabees cycling club....besides the group rides on weekends (leaving from Lord Charles Hotel), there are various smaller groups that ride in the week as well. www.wannabteam.com
  3. AND what is the general view on stopping for a technical vs a fall? at the top end of the race...not the backmarker end... My opinion (just as I think IF you over cooked a tech section and paid the price...IF your equipment failed...bad luck for you and good luck for your opponent - next time the roles can be reversed..)
  4. must say...I'm paranoid about front washing out at speed & cornering... since my Scwalbe Hans dampf snakeskin 2.35 up front...that worry has been elliminated!!
  5. Cycle in groups! We need to take our trails back...it's the only sanctuary left!!
  6. aaah..the Rat strikes again! Lekka report...

This is so true... it was also a slight irritation to me not being able to FULLY experience the fast, flowing...let me repeat FAST FLOWING...singletrack. Those trails were build for fast riding!! Certain sections which was open in front of me...I could not resist the occassional "whoop" or three!! (Insert slightly embarrassed partner here..). As an aside... I wonder what the hospital tally was in the end? With the rapid expansion of the sport...the lack of basic skill was quite evident...

Echo this....the end was a bit of a let down as well...but did not detract from the overall great experience! I got PLENTY of footage of riders not making the water crossing...that was entertaining as hell!! As for the race losing its lustre....this will probably come after many years only and with so many new events popping up....there will always be a new adventure to try! But for me...the Sani will stay special for many years to come...

As a last word...I'd suggest to Farmer Glen to add an extra ride' starting the Monday...and call it the "Virgin ride"....for all those blokes on the waiting lists...first timers appreciate things so much more and do not come into this event with unrealistic expectations! Everything logistically is basically set up for another event...just do it!! OR is having such a long waiting list part of the lure (adding some exclusivity to the event)...

So my first Sani done & dusted! It lived up to everything it was hyped up to be!! I was here, firstly for the awesome trails and scenery (check!!)...and secondly, for the overall vibe & experience...(check!!). The clothing...nothing wrong with that either! Not bad at all... Race villages...improving all the time, if i get the word on the ground correct. For me - to be able to provide this level of standard out in the sticks...once a year...is great!! It took me plenty of years to get into Sani...It was everything it's hyped to be... and some more....hope to be back again!! Im sure the second time round is even better, now that I know what to expect.

I spke to a group that did the last 3 days of J2C last week...says only on day 3 in the sugarcane fields that one can possibly take a wrong turn...but IF you look at the tyre tracks and amounts riding lines...getting lost will almost be impossible! they took a wrong trun and quickly found out it was wrong..doubkled back and voila...she's back on the route..
