  1. Motorbikes, especially off-roaders, have had this configuration since the 60s. I reckon the days of equal sized wheels are numbered.
  2. An amazing story, especially considering the physical condition he must have been in after spending time in the camp.
  3. I've been wanting to switch to 1x10 and will likely go with Kitted simply to show support for a company that got screwed but handled it properly and with the right attitude. Competition is indeed good, but to treat underhanded philistines like those guys as mere competition shows fortitude that is to be respected.
  4. I've also picked up weight; 75 to 80 in two months. I'm wanting to believe it's muscle. I started xfit and cycling at the same time. Before that I literally did zero exercise for a good few years. P.s. On lchf with my girlfriend...
  5. 90% of my riding is either road or Spruit Trail / Blue route type stuff so I'm not too worried. I'll report back if they take a proper knock. Sorry, the eBay link was a dumb move. I couldn't find the original ebay item I used. It was an auction that I won for $34 and postage was free. Paid R24 duties on collection.
  6. My Silverback Vida 1 came with Shimano M520s and I don't have the appropriate shoes for them. I quickly swapped them out for a cheapie pair of flats from LBS, but my AEST flats have FINALLY arrived from China. R400 on ebay, magnesium body and titanium axle - 78g each. The 530s and the cheapies were both 190g per pedal. They're a small purchase but the weight weenie I hide inside is dancing, and the otherwise black & white bike looks just a bit sexier. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AEST-Bike-MTB-Magnesium-Pedals-Platform-CNC-Titanium-Axle-9-16-160g-pair-/251681069683
  7. I'm looking at the 45km for my first race. Bit of a step up for me but we shall see. Is this a seeding event? If so, does the 45km count? #noob
  8. Don't know much about cycling helmets, but uvex's motorcycle helmets are top notch...if that's anything to go by
  9. This has probably been asked a thousand times but I couldn't find anything. I ride a Silverback Vida 1 with an XT drivetrain, SLX brakes and a Fox Float fork. I ride about 500km/month consisting of 50% tar, 40% easy trail and just a little heavy mud/water. I have a basic understanding of how to adjust derailleurs so when they misbehave it's not a problem. I'm just worried about the rest. Bearings etc? How often should I be taking her in for a service?
  10. I just wish they'd allow bikes on the Gautrain...ergh. Anyway, see you all there. I'll have a camera on my pip so hopefully I'll have a nice video to post here.
  11. Ok it's confirmed: Critical Mass is on 27 March The Jozi cycle week post was either just plain wrong, or they were trying to organise a second CM which may or may not happen. See you on the 27th!
  12. https://www.facebook.com/groups/18066062816/ I think it's a closed group now but the admins are pretty quick to approve entries. So. Much. Confusion. I've been struggling to confirm this but the general consensus is 27th. I'll post here if I get proper confirmation. Yup. I believe they depart at 17:45
  13. Hey chaps. Will Northern Farms be open to the public tomorrow? I see there's a race happening... My girlfriend just bought her first bike in many years and I thought a trundle around the green route would be a nice introduction.
  14. I hear you. I need to start simulating the time of the 94.7. My rides are generally 2~3 hours at the moment but I'm only managing to get them in once a week. My other issue is my rump. My 3 hour ride two weeks ago gave a seriously sore backside. I'm not sure if it's just lack of tits or if it's something to do with the saddle but I'll see how I go.
  15. I realise 3.5 hours is a stretch but it's just that: A stretch goal. I'd still be delighted with 4 hours. Going back through this thread I've seen a number of guys who have done it in under 3.5. Admittedly not on the new course and one was on a road bike, but it's not impossible.
