  1. I have a 1 year old Kickr 4. I rode the TdF stage on Zwift yesterday and while resistance is being applied, like on a climb, the unit was making a frikken loud noise. It sounded like metal rubbing on metal squealing. Does anyone know if this is an easy fix at home or if I need to take it in for a service. If it needs a service, where does one take it? Edit:- I just did another ride and the sound is more like that squeal you get from your fanbelt in a car.
  2. I see this started yesterday and they have changed the format slightly. Only 5 events this year rather than the 9 of last year. Did the Stage 1 race yesterday and was broken afterwards (3 months of not riding does not help one much) Stage 2 on Saturday. Anyone else doing it this year?
  3. So my take away from the comments on here is that unless one has prepared for a year in advance and is able to ride 100km in 50 degree heat without drinking a drop or eating a bite in under 3 hours, that you shouldn't dare enter a ride that might challenge you. That is pretty much the general vibe being given off.
  4. Pretty sure the organisers aren't reading this, but for posterity sake, here is feedback from someone who abandoned. 1) Start times are frikken stupid. Why does every distance except the 100km start at 5 am? The 35km/65 km people could start later if they are worried about the elite/pro people coming past. Elites / Pros tend to do wway under 3 hrs so start the 65km people from 6:30 and the 35km people at 7:30 and then everyone gets to finish before the mid day sun. 2) Water points should be WAY more frequent. If the 947 can have a water table every 10km or so, then why the 25km between water points on the Shova? 3) A little bit of training on bike handling for the people in the sweeper trucks. I put on new bar tape before the race and it is now a mangled mess. No clue how to add an image to this post so cant show the bars now, but the entire left side is a ground up mess, I even have a few deep gouges in my bars themselves. That is about all I can think of. I gave up at the Harrison Flats water point after having my heartrate sitting over max for more than 15 minutes, feeling seriously light headed and just generally like I was about to collapse, I knew I would not make it up drummond / Bothas so threw in the towel. Sadly I then lost my Garmin as well so cannot even upload my completed portion of the route to see how badly I actually did. My main take away from the Shova this year is that it was really badly organised, Some people were being let through at the closure points, water tables ran out of things that should have been extra stocked due to the heat that they knew about at least the day before if not on Friday already ( I received warning messages on Saturday already that there was a warning of extreme heat). The 160km people didnt see a water point until around 80+ km into their ride. I gave half a bottle to one of the 160km people who was seriously suffering.
  5. For those riding tomorrow, please be super careful coming into 45th cutting. The road narrows drastically with concrete barriers on both sides and the road surface there is pretty shoddy as well.
  6. Maybe send an email to Campy themselves with the images attached to verify if they ever made wheels like those. Edit - After spending 10 minutes going through images of Bora wheels on Google, I have to agree that the decals look off, BUT, I am no Campy expert so rather wait for other replies
  7. I feel for you. My only major fall was a couple years ago at a whopping 8 kmh. Still did significant damage though. (1 herniated disk, 2 compacted disks and a rotated and shifted pelvis) Pretty much the same thing, took my eye off the ball for a second and boom. My chiro is also a cyclist and his theory is that the high speed crashes are sometimes better. At low speed you go splat and all the impact force is absorbed by the body, at higher speeds you are like a stone skipping on the water, lots of roasties but the force is more horizontal like. Unless of course you hit something like a wall or pole or something like that.
  8. My saddle is done for. Its now gotten to the seriously uncomfortable stage, its peeling the top layer off exposing the sponge padding underneath and it just looks grotty. Got a new saddle I can put on that came with the bike (not the best saddle but it will do until the end of next month when I can get a new saddle) My question is, how do I switch the two without altering the fit? Currently my bike is like a flipping dream, no pain anywhere (other than from a worn out saddle) so I want to try and keep it as close as possible. I have thought of marking the rails and then transferring the marks to the new saddles rails, but that would only guarantee that the rails are the same, Anyone have a better solution? On a side note, what does one do with stuffed saddles? is there a recycling option?
  9. Only been on Zwift for about a month now. Using a Kickr 4. Did a ramp test to start and got 213 as my FTP. Not great but not that terrible either. Did a few workouts (cant remember which ones now, just picked ones that looked interesting to me) and then did the Zwift 101 plan and got 221 in my Ramp test that is part of that plan. I can feel the improvement as well. My PRs on the sprints and the return trip in Tempus Fugit have also gone down drastically. A few days ago I rode in Fuego Flats and was just sitting at a relaxed pace nad set a new PR that was 15 seconds faster than old PR so its certainly doing something. Starting the Gran Fondo plan on Monday so will see if it translates into real world differences when the Shova comes around
  10. Got myself a ZTE C310 from Edgars for R300. Small, runs WhatsApp perfectly and then use google maps to share location with the wife. Decent camera (5MP) but it is helluva slow. Does what I need it to do and if I lose it I dont care.
  11. If I understand correctly you want to do a sort of fundraiser ride with a live "where am I?" function so people can trace your route etc. If that is the case, you could use something along the lines of this. https://wordpress.org/plugins/gps-plotter/ Not sure how easy it would be to implement nor how accurate it would be, but I found that one after a quick google.
  12. Been out for two weeks now with a "viral inflamation in the blood". Didnt even know such a thing was possible but there you go. Blood test shows the values should be between 0-6, doc normally puts anyone over 20 in hospital as thats severe, mine came back at 24. Coming right now though. Hoping to ride again from next week but will see how it goes
  13. I could put an 8 onto the kickr I suppose but that would be heading backwards as far as I am concerned. Was mainly wondering if the 11spd chain would work on the 8 spd chainrings. Dont really want to redo the entire bike just for the idt. May as well buy an el cheapo game special that is 11 spd and drop that on then since bike weight makes no difference
  14. If you were still wanting your own copy, google "rapport toer book" and there are a few on sale.
  15. So my first ever road bike is just sitting in the garage. It has Shimano Claris on it (8 speed) My trainer is the Kickr 4 with an 11 speed cassette. Am I right that I only need to replace the rear mech and the rear shifter to get the bike 11 speed compatible? Or would I need to fiddle with the chainrings as well? Wanting to set it up as a permanent mount on the trainer so I can get my current steed set up for the road again.
